Sandy Alderson has just completed his second year on the job as General Manager of the New York Mets. As Met fans, we have to ask ourselves whether or not this team has improved under Alderson’s leadership. The last two seasons, the Mets have been awful. Granted, he inherited a team with major flaws….or did he? Clearly, the team was saddled with crippling contracts (Luis Castillo, Oliver Perez), but as we’re learning…Omar Minaya left the minor league system in better shape than anyone originally thought possible. The fact is, many of their talented minor leaguers were buried because Minaya would sign washed up veteran players, and stockpile them at AAA, retarding the entire system.
